I've been buying a bunch of CDs lately, mainly because I found a place down town that's been selling used CDs for as low as $2. Some of those $2 CDs included

• AC/DC's Razor's Edge (of course I already had it...on cassette)

• That popular one from Urge Overkill. One of those rare rock bands of the 90s who looked like rock stars, not lumberjacks.

• The debut from Presidents of the United States of America. I didn't like them too much in their 15 minutes of fame, but something triggered an interest lately. In fact a few weeks ago I was specifically looking for this specific CD in a cheap format. My wish came true. Fun band that never took itself seriously, yet didn't have that anti-corporate pretentious attitude like other bands at the time. Quite a different sound to my musican ears too, with their 2-string and 3-string instruments!

• Femme Fatale's one and only album. Remember them? I didn't think so. Another one of those short-lived '87 era hair metal bands. HOT singer, Lorraine Lewis. She was even on Remote Control with Anthrax's Charlie Benatte and some guy from Britney Fox (Charlie won). I used to have a poster of her next to my bed at the time. I loved that tape. And now I have it on CD.

• Squeeze, "Singles: 45s and Under". I thought "Hey, I like songs like 'Tempted', and it's only $2."

• Some "best of" James Brown compilation. OK, this one was actually $8. But DAMN, I see why this guy's in the history books. He is, after all, the man credited with creating music that "starts on the ONE." Some of those beats still sound modern 35 years later. Maybe a lot of those metal screams I like so much can be traced back to him.

And not surprisingly after seeing that concert [see last diary entry], I got some Rolling Stones CDs in other stores. Unopened, remastered and not too expensive ($10-$12). I got "It's Only Rock n' Roll", "Sticky Fingers" (after hearing my friend rave about it so much), and the one I was drastically searching for, "Some Girls". I don't think it was all due to the concert though. Being a Black Crowes for so long, I'm sure it was inevitable that I'd start to gravitate towards the band they their music was always compared to. Listening to some of those early 70s albums, I definitely hear more of the similarities now. Oh yeah -- I found the Black Crowes live double-CD in those stores too. Time to cross off another song from my "Previously Unreleased" list of Black Crowes songs. This brings it down to 83.
