"You will never find a wretched hive of scum and villany"

In Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi had this to say about Mos Isley, the town where they go into the bar to meet Han Solo: "You will never find a wretched hive of scum and villany". (And if I spelled that wrong, pissing off any Star Wars geeks: tough shit. Get over it.) Though the quote works for Ozzfest too.

Why did I go to Ozzfest? Five words: Judas Priest with Rob Halford. Now that Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath have long since reunited with their most popular ex-members, this Judas Priest reunion had to have been the most anticipated it-will-never-happen reunion that heavy metal fans could ask for. If you took a poll last year and asked "Which metal band should finally reunite with previous members", I would bet hard cash that "Judas Priest with Rob Halford singing" would be at the top of the list.

Who else was playing the main stage of Ozzfest? Super Joint Ritual (featuring Pantera's singer) and Slayer. What made this different from other Ozzfests? THE FACT THAT THE MAIN STAGE ACTUALLY HAD MUSICIANS WHO PUT OUT MUSIC BEFORE 1990 (let alone 1995)!!

Every Ozzfest, Ozzy obviously gets to close the show. The closing act is either Black Sabbath or Ozzy Osbourne's solo band. This year it was originally planned to be the latter (which is also the much more inferior of the two). But then less than 2 months ago, it was announced that Black Sabbath was going to be the final act. Why? My guess is that Ozzy and Sharon underestimated how hard it would be to top Slayer and then Judas Priest playing right before the final act. If Ozzy's solo band was playing, I would have left after Judas Priest hit the stage.

Black Sabbath played for 60 minutes with the same old predictable fucking songs. The 10 predictable "greatest hits". I tried to give Black Sabbath the benefit of the doubt because they hadn't played together in 2 years, and again this was thrown together at the last minute. Still, I'm sorry -- Judas Priest kicked their ass.

I have so much more to say on Ozzfest, but I think I'll need to some time to sort all this shit out.
